One of the many impediments to housing delivery in the ACT is the fragmented approach by a range of government agencies. The outcome is a lack of consistency and leadership across all aspects of housing delivery within government.
There is no single owner of the problems or the solutions. Several portfolios directly impact the delivery of more homes in the Territory yet are not responsible for ensuring that the demand for housing is actually met year on year.
Consistent leadership over portfolios that directly impact housing supply will ensure that when decisions are made regarding housing, planning, building, land development and city services, that the consequences for housing affordability and delivery is given due consideration.
The disjointed approach results in delays, where Directorates have no obligation to consider the impact on housing supply within their portfolio goals.
