NT Chair's report

{{ tag.label }} {{ tag.label }} $vuetify.icons.faTimes
As HIA NT Committee Chair, I would like to take the opportunity to highlight our focus points for 2023 and outline our plans for the future.

Justin Gill

HIA Northern Territory President

During the past year, I am proud to say the committee experienced significant growth in its membership. We welcomed four new members, including three accomplished female professionals, demonstrating our commitment to diversity and inclusion within the industry. Additionally, we are proud to have elected a new Vice President, Mario Tsirbas, whose valuable expertise and leadership will undoubtedly contribute to the success of our endeavours.

In alignment with the HIA's strategic goals and the unique challenges faced by the Northern Territory construction industry, the committee identified the following key areas of focus for the year:

National Construction Code 2022 changes

The imminent changes to the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 present an opportunity for us to support our members in transitioning smoothly by continually lobbying the state government on behalf of our members. We recognise the importance of providing comprehensive training programs and resources to ensure our members are well-equipped to navigate these changes successfully.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The implementation of the NCC 2022 emphasises the critical role of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in maintaining high industry standards. We will actively promote training and its significance in upskilling our members, ensuring they remain at the forefront of industry advancements and best practices.

Land supply

Land supply remains a critical factor affecting the housing industry in the Northern Territory. Our committee will actively engage with relevant stakeholders to address this challenge, advocating for increased land availability, efficient planning processes, and sustainable development practices to support our members' operations and the supply of affordable land.

Supporting women in construction

Promoting and empowering women in the construction industry is one priority for our committee. We plan to organise a range of exciting new events focused on celebrating and supporting women in construction. By creating opportunities for networking, professional development, and mentorship, we aim to attract more women to the industry and support their career progression.

The Northern Territory Regional Committee has made significant progress this year, both in terms of membership support and strategic focus for the future of our industry. We are committed to supporting our members through the upcoming changes to the NCC, enhancing CPD opportunities, advocating for land supply improvements and empowering women in the construction industry through targeted initiatives.

As Chair, I extend my gratitude to all committee members for their dedication, expertise, and contribution in the coming year. I also thank HIA and our industry partners for their continued support. Together, we will continue to build a thriving and sustainable housing industry in the Northern Territory.
