SA President's report

{{ tag.label }} {{ tag.label }} $vuetify.icons.faTimes
I am delighted to be elected as the new HIA SA President. Honoured to hold this position, I look forward to working with you all as we strive to deliver new opportunities for our industry. I also wish outgoing President Brad Jansen all the best as he steps down for personal reasons. My ascension to the role of President was quicker than I expected, which reinforces the old motto be careful what you wish for.

Peter McIndoe

HIA South Australia President

Our industry will continue to face economic headwinds into 2024 as indicated in recent economic reports by the HIA.

Last week the HIA-COLORBOND steel Housing 100 report for 2022/23 was released. This highlighted plight of the industry currently with the 17,143 fewer homes built by the top 100 this year than last.

These are the facts, however I’m a glass half full guy and I know the state government has ambitious plans to boost housing supply as outlined in this year's budget.

Through our Executive Director Stephen Knight and the Regional Executive Committee, we will continue to work with government to ensure that their promises are delivered for the benefit of our industry.

Recent decisions to fast-track the planning process to bring more land to market and cut red-tape for greenfield developments are steps in the right direction and will provide some security to our industry as we manage through the next 18 months.

I am reminded of a saying of a mate of mine “We have the best job in the world! There is nothing more satisfying than handing over the keys to someone’s brand new home.”

Let’s not forget that there is great joy in what we do, and we have lots of fantastic people in our industry and when we work together, we are stronger.   I look forward to my term as President and working with you to make our industry stronger.
