Ahead of the 2025 federal election, HIA recently hosted three housing roundtables with a cross section of members and Senator Andrew Bragg, Senator Maria Kovacic, and Liberal candidates for Dobell, Patterson, and Shortland.
Attendees were forthright in their discussions on local housing supply and affordability issues, highlighting areas where a future federal government can and must support our sector. There was a strong focus on both supply and demand matters and the need to support businesses to meet the growing housing demand.
While some progress has been made in boosting supply, there was consensus that we need real reform in NSW, not more commentary or niche policy solutions. Keeping on with business as usual solutions to solve the housing crisis simply won’t cut it. HIA members are ready to build. The system simply needs to let them.
