With housing prioritised as a key issue in the Federal Election, both parties provided a raft of announcements to boost housing supply. Housing reform will remain a central focus as the nation continues to be challenged with land and housing supply and skilled labour shortages.

The incoming government needs waste no time implementing their election promises relating to the delivery of housing across our region. Whilst the policies are a good start in addressing the industry’s concerns, much more work and broader reforms are needed. HIA will continue to work with all levels of government to support the supply of much needed land and housing.
Strong interest has been shown for Round 1 of the Queensland Government Residential Activation Fund, which closed on 23 May. The funding ($500m) is available to local government, developers, and landowners with a Development Approval for a residential development necessitating the construction of trunk and essential infrastructure. “The Housing Industry Association (HIA) welcomes commitments made today by Commonwealth, State and Territory Building Ministers in providing decisive action to pause non-essential building code changes and to reset how the NCC is developed and implemented going forward,” said HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin.
