Queensland’s Housing and Public Works Minister Sam O’Connor recently made announcements aimed at cutting red tape and reducing unnecessary costs for builders and contractors. Most significantly, he announced the further rollout of Project Trust Accounts due this year to capture projects down to 1 million dollars will be paused, something HIA lobbied for in its Election Manifesto. The Annual financial reporting requirements for SC1 and SC2 contractors have also been removed.
The Minister also committed to introducing a Queensland Housing Code, something we have been personally lobbying in favour of for 12 years. You can read more about the announcement here.
