Who we are

The HIA Charitable Foundation committee members are dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of those in the residential building industry.

Meet our management committee

Pino Monaco

Chairman

Pino Monaco is the director of GV Lawyers and represents builders, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers. Pino has previously served as National President of the Housing Industry Association, representing over 60,000 members Australia wide.

Having such a broad and long involvement in the housing industry, Pino has a solid understanding of the issues facing our industry. Charity work and giving back to the community is an important part of his personal and professional life.

Pino was on the National Board when the HIA Charitable Foundation was launched and has been an integral part of its continued development.

Alwyn Even

Alwyn started his formal working career in 1975 at Jason Windows and Jason Home Improvements, following a number of years working with his father (who was a sub contract bricklayer).

At Jason Home Improvements he was a supervisor for the construction of single and double storey extensions and patios.

In 1983, Alwyn joined Webb & Brown-Neaves as a sales consultant and in 1988 was appointed to position of Sales & Marketing Manager, and then to General Manager in 1992.

He became a registered Builder in 1992.

Alwyn has served on HIA committees, both regional and national, for nearly 30 years. In May 2013 Alwyn was elected to HIA’s National Board of Directors and in 2021 after two years as Vice President, became HIA’s National President. In 2023 he completed his term as President, and remains on HIA’s National Board and continues to serve on industry committees regionally and nationally.

The building industry can be very stressful, at times. Our Foundation provides much needed support to those who may need it. I'm proud to be involved with the Foundation to ensure that we have the resources to help our members.

Robert Griek

Robert Griek has been in the building industry for the past 44 years, beginning his career as an apprentice tile layer in 1975. Seven years later he starter his first business in bathroom renovations and became a registered builder. The bathroom renovation business then grew to include waterproofing as a result The Cherob Group Pty Ltd was established.

Robert is still the Managing Director of the The Cherob Group Pty Ltd, which under this directorship he managers C & D Waterproofing and Back to Basic Bathroom and Kitchens.

Not long after joining HIA as a member in 1989 as a platform to form numerous networks in the industry he was asked to chair his first committee in 1991. This was the starting point of being involved in numerous HIA committees and State President of Victoria.

I believe everyone has different experiences and insights to share in solving the issues we face as an industry. I know what it's like to have skin in the game, so I'm committed to seeing the advancement of the building industry and support those working in it.

Jocelyn Martin

Jocelyn is the Managing Director of the Housing Industry Association.  Since joining HIA in 2014, Jocelyn has also held the positions of Chief Executive Business Services and Chief Executive Operations.

Creating workplaces and businesses which foster a culture of safety and wellbeing is an essential part of not only productivity but builds a sense of community and connection. In an industry as dynamic and challenging as construction, this can be difficult. For this reason, Jocelyn believes resources and support for mental and physical health for those in our sector are essential.

Jocelyn Martin has had a lengthy career in education and business. She has been involved in a range of philanthropic and social enterprises. Together with her husband Bryan, Jocelyn is a director of her family-run wine business.

I share a vision that everyone in our industry can access appropriate information and support when they need it. The work of HIA's Charitable Foundation turns this vision into reality.
