Regulatory certainty

Regulatory certainty

  • Housing portfolios to remain in focus for Incoming Government
  • Housing Supply Unit - investment to support housing supply
  • Solitary date each year for all Building Reforms with a minimum six-month notice period

Now more than ever we need a Government whose agenda for the next four years is unashamedly housing affordability, diversity and delivery.

Government departments responsible for various elements of housing-related regulation and delivery have often found themselves at cross-purposes, with departments routinely introducing requirements that create barriers to the delivery of more housing and increased cost.

Housing delivery has never been more important, yet our industry is facing unprecedented pressure due to onerous and contradictory Government policies. The delivery of all forms of homes for Western Australia needs to be appropriately prioritised and effectively managed across Government.

Policy initiatives

Housing portfolios to remain in focus for Incoming Government
Senior leaders within Government to hold the housing, planning, finance, commerce, water and environmental portfolios that are critical to housing affordability and delivery.
Housing Supply Unit - investment to support housing supply
To support the Government achieve their housing objectives there should be investment in the HSU and all policies affecting housing must be run through the HSU to determine impact on affordability and supply.
Solitary date each year for all Building Reforms with a minimum six-month notice period
No more regulation on the run. All new building policy and reforms should be adopted on 1 May every year with a minimum six-month transition for small changes and 12 months for large changes.
