An abundance of easy to develop land no longer exists, the result is smaller parcels of land, increased environmental approvals and a postage stamp assessment of a development rather than how it may fit within the broader precinct development.

A new approach from all parties to resourcing, investment and delivery of greenfields and brownfields land to the Western Australian market is required.

The next State Government needs to set aside $3 billion across the next four years to ensure that environmental approvals and investment in sewer, water and power don’t slow the growth we require as a state to reach our share of 1.2 million homes.

 

Policy initiatives

De-constrain land supply
Fast tracking, investing and prioritising land development across all of government by aligning environmental approvals and asset investment in power, water and sewer to ensure titled lots are fully serviced.
Excessive bushfire requirements
Removing excessive bushfire restriction on first adopters in residential developments where future residential is planned to occur.
Local Government planning
Endorse private planning assessment to reduce the burden on local government planning departments but decision making to remain with local governments as is the current process with Building Permits.
